Significant sighting

HarveyPerkins noted:

14 Feb 2019

There are only a very few records of Fiery Skimmer in the ACT, and this is the first female I'm aware of. It is still unclear if they have bred here, or if they migrate in from more coastal areas.

User's notes

In Rob Roy Reserve, in the hills to the east of Banks.

Michael - great find. Apart from the two records already in CNM from late summer last season, I also found a single male along Condor Creek on 2 February this year. This is the first female I know of for the ACT.

Thanks Harvey
I didn't expect to see dragonflies in Rob Roy at all, so glad to get a rare one.

I know your sighting is already a month ago, but it might be worth a look around the Banks wetlands just in case there are others about. If so, it would be much more convincing of a small degree of local breeding - perhaps. I won't be aroundbthis weekend so won't be able to do so myself.

I'm not sure what you mean by the Banks wetland. Do you mean the wet area of the same creek just near the flood control dam?

Yes - a string of 3 ponds on N side of Tom Roberts Ave. Or any other vegetated creeky bits in the general area.

The "string of 3 ponds on N side of Tom Roberts Ave" is called the Conder Wetlands, adjacent to Tuggeranong Hill Res.

As well as the wet area just downstream from the flood control dam. If it's wet. I haven't yet made it to that specific spot.
