Author's notes

herd of 12 individuals (4 males with antlers, 8 others) on western-facing slopes of the Murrumbidgee river corridor in the West Belconnen area. Fairly flighty, moving off uphill as we approached in vehicle, and easily cleared standard rural fence. One was limping. An antler found within a km of this sighting in November 2018 looked like a Sambar deer antler, based on information I could see on web. Google Maps incorrectly labels this as being in Woodstock Reserve (which is on the other side of the Murrumbidgee River).

Hi Jane
Thanks for your contribution/photo. I have downloaded the original photo, cropped it and added it back to aid in identification.

Thanks. sorry about quality (just a bit too far for an i-phone) but i thought it was ecologically important as a record.

Yes, it is a very good record, with such a herd being so close to the suburbs.
