Good find, Cath. These wasps are uncommon. Your images clearly show the features that identify this family - the little tubercles on top of the head, and the length and shape of the segments of the hind leg, with the coxae and femora swollen and about equal in length.

According to the Insects of Australia this archaic family is not closely related to any other extant wasps (Apocrita). One of them has been introduced for the biological control of the exotic pine sawfly Sirex.
