User's notes

More winged tree-climbing 'coconut ants'. Does the large size suggest that these are queens? These ants seem to be very widespread in Aranda Bushland, so I will only report further sightings if they are needed.

Thanks Cath - I had a discussion with Suzie Bond about coconut ants and she was going to talk to an ant expert at CSIRO, re identification of possible different coconut ant species and then we would need to consider or assess whether different species may have an impact on what butterflies are utilising the ant nest. We would like your records as we are likely to survey those areas with a high concentration of ants, but you don't need to id every nest just enough for it to be clear where there are concentrations of nests.
