It might be Daviesia genistifolia. Did the leaf stalk appear to merge smoothly with the stem (ulicifolia) or did there appear to be a joint between the leaf and the stem (genistifolia)?
   9 Jul 2018
Appeared to be a joint.

Seems to come down to what character is most important. The phyllodes appear to have a prominent midrib which using the PlantNET key, the Flora of Victoria key and any descriptions I can find takes it to Daviesia ulicifolia

Thanks Betty, Ken and Mathew will confirm for now as comments indicate that the confirmation is the most likely rather than a definitive ID, which can be changed later if further photo's make ID clearer
