User's notes

Exceptionally lovely mature trees with huge white trunks throughout this area, sorry I do not know species

Wrinkly "armpits" where main branches join onto trunk suggest scribbly gum. The other alternative is Brittle Gum. Did you touch the trunk and if so did you get a chalk like substance on your fingers?

I don’t think it is mannifera. Some of the flower clusters have nine flowers. Mannifera only has seven flowers per cluster. Rossii has 11 plus. However, buds often fall off, so fewer than what the books say is possible. I too would be interested in knowing about any chalky substance on the the trunk. A pity that the photo showing the flower buds and leaves is so distant..

Michael and Betty - Thank you. These trees are on the volunteer dog walking track at Domestic Animal Services. I just asked a friend who is walking dogs there now to touch the trunks and she said there was no chalky substance. She has taken a better close up photo so I replaced my phone photo with hers.

Thanks Jacky - chalky residue is one of the key identification features of Eucalyptus mannifera
