Significant sighting

18 Mar 2018

Although common in coastal and sub-coastal environments, this species is rare in the ACT, probably as a dispersing vagrant. This is the second known record of it in the ACT.

Great find, Ken. And begs the obvious question - is it the same individual seen at Cotter Reserve on 17 February? Distance-wise it's just under 3 km straight-line distance between the two sites. Time-wise (26 days) is also quite conceivable. One alternative might be that a small number of this species did grow up locally as larvae. We'll probably never know.

Both records of this species appear to be in good condition, although mine has a small tear on the lower edge of the right hind-wing. This makes me wonder how old the adults are and how far they have traveled.
