If it is a Brachyscome, you really need ripe seeds for an ID. It does not really fit Erigeron. There are probably other weedy possibilities.

This plant appears to have much bigger flowers and leaves than S. subulatum in the other images of the species here and from other web resources. Could it actually be S. novi-belgii?

Your are right. Also the fact that it is colonial, which subulaum is not.
