Identification history

Snake Pseudechis porphyriacus 18 Dec 2017 wombey
Unidentified 17 Dec 2017 Christine

Author's notes

I assumed red-bellied Black snake, but could not see it clearly. It swam to the island in the centre of this farm dam. Photo taken from roadside. Swam quickly across the water, then was slowed down and struggled through the vegetation near the island, but eventually got to the island and disappeared into the grass.
