Significant sighting

First ACT record of this usually coastal invasive species. Mike I hope the frost is knocking it around - if not another good one for you to remove if possible.

User's notes

Spreading succulent. Garden escape.

I'm a little uncertain as to the proposed identification and I'm assuming the flower is only partly open. Either way, Aptenia cordifolia on the species page is listed as a rare native, perhaps it is in South Africa? but it is not native to Australia.

It certainly fits the descriptions in Plantnet and Vicflora. Howver, apart from a doubtful sighting near Lake George, all other sightings/records of this species in NSW are strictly coastal or Sydney suburbs. There could well be other mesembryanthemums not in the flora that originate in dumped garden waste.

Photo of flower added 20 July. t is supposedly Spring-Summer flowering so maybe that is why Winter flowers are reluctant to open. This is patch scattered over about 50 square metres close to fence. Maybe I need to talk to the neighbours. Poisoning is probably the only option.
