User's notes

I was most surprised to see this orchid on Jenke Circuit just a few metres from Drakeford drive. It may collect a little extra water as it is on a slope to carry water towards a drain. Could an orchid establish this area or would it be a remnant that survived all the works when the suburbs were established? Its future looks uncertain as mesh fencing has recently been placed around the site suggesting some development will take place.

Most likely a remnant, as it is leafless its survival depends on a symbiotic association it has with a nearby tree or shrub. I have seen them growing on suburban blocks where there is a surviving Eucalypt.
