Do you remember what sort of grass the scale was on?
Roger says in his book that Symonicoccus australis is commonly seen on Aristida ramosa.

I have been back to check the grass. Mostly heavily grazed but some plants had a few seeds with 3-branched awn so I believe it is Aristida ramosa.
