Unfortunately none of the leaves in the photos belong to the flowers. I am not really sure it is a geranium. It looks like a difficult site for a photo, so I suupose there is no chance of a side on photo of the flower.

Okay. I will have another look sometime next week but I doubt it is still flowering

I think it looks like one that has sprung up in my garden. There are several Erodium or Geranium species with deeply divided and deeply toothed lobes.

The leaves look just like those in sighting http://canberranaturemap.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3366645?Identified=true
which do belong to the plant. From the angle the photos were taken, it looked as if the flower was growing up throgh a mass of other stuff. A photo of the whole plant would have helped, to get a perspective on the general look of it.

Sorry, I had both sightings open at the same time and picked the wrong one. Try this one.

Thanks Betty. It does seem a good fit. Although at the time I'm fairly sure that ID didn't occur to me, as it appeared so uncharactaristically lush and leafy, perhaps helped in part by the surrounding grass

This is Geranium robertianum. The flower is completely diagnostic as are the leaf characters, which are outside the brachycarpum group.
