Do we need to distinguish life stages such as eggs/egg cases from adults. Some eggs can be identified to species but probably not for mantids

Not usually, where we can we would want to include all life stage together under the one species or taxonomic entity. In the case of praying mantis I suspect that we will get a lot of reports of their egg cases so I established this separate grouping - but we could change it to all praying mantis that can't be identified beyond the level of family

Most adult praying mantis can be identified to species provided the photograph shows enough features so the egg case is a useful separate group as they are so often seen..
