Previously known as Yass River tussock, a South American weed first reported near Yass in 1936. Declared a noxious weed in the ACT in 1954 though it was not present at the time. It has spread everywhere in the region.

Thanks Waltraud. I will add the site to the ArcGIS on-line Treated Weeds 15-16 map. You will notice there is problem developing on Mt Ainslie-Majura with numerous new Serrated Tussock sites having recently been sprayed.

Hi parkie818
thanks for uploading the site on ArcGis.
the most likely reason for numerous new Serrated tussocks on Mts Majura Ainslie is that this gap coloniser which isn't grazed benefits from overgrazing and the resulting bare soil!
We now enter a stage where we need to discuss whether to treat weeds at all as they are the only plants that are allowed to grow and that hold the soil together. This is all very depressing but loosing the soil is irreversible and the worst case scenario...

Yes it is a gap coloniser like many weeds, but unfortunately it is an invasive weed too. So if land management objective is to conserve native grasses and wildflowers, then not controlling it is not an option.

I recorded this particular site years ago and sent GPS coordinates and photographs to PCS twice. Since no treatment was carried out I carried out the spraying myself.
