This is native to Australia and the original species description, published in 1924, is based on a specimen collected in South Australia. It is widespread in southern Australia and has been reported from outside Australia as well. It is a lichen. At first glance the yellow mushroom appears to be growing on bare soil, amongst a sparse growth of moss. However, the 'bare' soil has a green wash. Under a microscope you'd see a mix of algal and fungal cells and that wash is the body of the lichen, the mushroom being the sporing structure produced by the fungal partner in that lichen. In Lichenomphalia the algal/fungal association is far less intimate and structured than is the case in most lichens. This is a Fungimap target species.
