Hi Galah681
This is a valuable sighting. The photograph may well be of a Thelymitra pauciflora, but the flower is quite fuzzy, and therefore difficult to confirm.
I have noticed this problem with a number of your sightings, so I hope you don't mind if I make a suggestion to you when you are taking photos.
If you take a photo of a plant from above, the camera can have trouble working out what to focus on, and may focus on the ground rather than the flower. So you get a photo with the base leaves in focus but not the flower at the top.
But if you bring the camera down to the level of the flower, with the camera pointing to the flower but in a line parallel to the ground, then you should do better.
Good luck.
That's a good tip Michael, I struggle with this as well. Galah: This looks like the first confirmed sun orchid in flower for the season at Gungahlin Hill - congrats. I was out there just 2 days ago and none of them were quite flowering yet. Nice sighting.
Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry the photo was fuzzy - I always seem to have trouble with sun orchids. I tried from several angles but the camera was not cooperating and I was running out of time. I was in the same place yesterday (with only my phone camera) and did not see the flowers, so I think they just came out today.
I agree that T. pauciflora is the most likely; they have suddenly opened up in the last couple of days with the warm weather. A trick to try to improve focus is to put an object such as your hand directly behind the subject, get the camera to focus on that object and shoot.
