Nick, this is possibly a mountain or a jacky dragon. The location, what appear to be spines on the outside back legs and its brownish colour would suggest that it is a mountain dragon. Knowing the colour of the inside of its mouth would be definitive, as would its behaviour. Mountain dragons tend to hang around in the leaf litter and are knowing for their digging behaviour, while jackies are known to come out in the open and to climb trees. Any thoughts? GeoffR.

John. Agree with what you say. I would go with mountain dragon given spines on back of leg and location; agree that once the dragon is in the hand encouraging it to open its mouth would have been a lay down misère . GeoffR

Hi Geoff and John, Jackie dragons are orange inside their mouths aren't they ? What colour is it inside mountain dragons mouths ?

Narelle, The notes on Dragons on CNM mention the Jacky has a bright yellow tongue and mouth which it appears to use to frighten off predators and to assert dominance; the Mountain Dragon has a yellow tongue and blue mouth and the Nobbi has a pink tongue and mouth. Geoff

Thanks Geoff . Its good to learn that. The dragons down here on the Far South Coast have a bit more orangey tongue and mouth if I remember correctly. I used to feed them march flies and would see inside their mouths then. I will take note next time. Narelle
