I base these remarks on the key in IR Thompson Taxonomic studies of Australian Senecio (Asteraceae): 1. The disciform species. S. bipinnatisectus has hairless stems and leaves hairless above, and involucral bracts (phyllaries in the paper) predominantly about 8-10. S. bathurstianus has coarsely hairy stems and coarsely hairy leaves, and involucral bracts about 12-14.
