Would this be T brevifolia then?

It doesn't look like the T. brevifolia that I know in this area which has smaller, paler, less robust-looking flowers and grows in a more wooded habitat. This was in open grassland. I was wondering if it might be T. peniculata, but no idea really!

Fair enough. Well it looks like it matches the description in the ACT orchid book for T peniculata, so you're probably right! (I'm eternally confused by Thelymitra).

The leaf looks short and broad, but the column arms appear to be splayed out rather than converging which is the case with most of the T. pauciflora group (at least according to DLJ), so I don't know. You may have to stay with Thelymitra sp.

A couple of T. peniculata plants I know have fairly broad, corrugated leaves. Maybe that helps.

The leaf is at least half the length of the stem. It's just bent over. But it's quite smooth - no corrugations.

I initially thought T. brevifolia, and some features fit with T. peniculata but not others. So I'm now more confused. Your call Cath.

This keyed to T pauciflora or T peniculata in VicFlora, and it was difficult to separate these. On balance, I think probably just a very robust specimen of T pauciflora, but will stick with T sp. for now.
