ACT Parks and the Molonglo Conservation Group want people to check their gardens, suburbs and reserves for new and emerging invasive plant species (nasty weeds list on the Canberra Nature Map web site), that are spreading into nature reserves and waterways where they will disrupt our native plant communities and ecosystems.
A native plant gift voucher will be given to people who spot new infestations (that is infestations that have not already been reported or mapped) of these invasive plants on public land (a ‘spotter’s fee’). Residents who spot them in their garden and remove them, will receive a native plant gift voucher - depending on which early invader was removed (a ‘weed swap’). There is a limit of 5 gift vouchers per person per year.
Upload your observations to Canberra Nature Map and if the plant is confirmed as one of the ‘nasty weeds’ then you will be messaged by ACT Parks - Invasive Plants Program staff about how to collect your gift voucher reward.
